At nine years old, her life took a pivotal turn when she emigrated to Guatemala, moving deep into the jungle. She grew up in extreme humility, in a home built with corrugated metal sheets, plastic sheeting and dirt floors, without running water or electricity. She learned to wash her clothes by hand and to collect water directly from the river. During this chapter she reconnected deeply with her mother's Ixil roots, proudly embracing her Indigenous heritage: wearing traditional textiles, enjoying handmade corn tortillas and learning to speak the Ixil language.A los nueve años, su vida dio un giro decisivo cuando emigró a Guatemala, a lo profundo de la selva. Creció con extrema humildad, en una casa de láminas, plástico y piso de tierra, sin agua potable ni electricidad. Aprendió a lavar su ropa a mano y a recoger agua directamente del río. En esa etapa se reconectó profundamente con las raíces ixiles de su madre y abrazó con orgullo su herencia indígena: vistiendo tejidos tradicionales, disfrutando las tortillas de maíz hechas a mano y aprendiendo a hablar el idioma ixil.

Driven by an unwavering desire to progress, Maruu later emigrated to the United States, starting completely from scratch and courageously navigating the difficult adaptation shared by millions of hardworking families. With hard work and determination as her main tools, she entered the cleaning industry. What began as a daily effort to survive became a structured, thriving business, proof that relentless effort, dignity in labor and a clear vision can transform a family's destiny.Impulsada por un deseo inquebrantable de salir adelante, Maruu emigró después a Estados Unidos, empezando desde cero y enfrentando con valentía el difícil proceso de adaptación que viven millones de familias trabajadoras. Extreme poverty, housing instability and the challenges of migration did more than build Maruu's character. They planted a lifelong mission in her heart: no woman or family should have to walk the path to success alone. Driven by the empathy that only comes from personal experience, she co-founded Better Together Foundation to provide actionable tools (education, business mentorship, housing guidance and personal development) to women and families facing circumstances like the ones she once overcame.La pobreza extrema, la inestabilidad de vivienda y los retos de la migración hicieron más que forjar su carácter. Sembraron en su corazón una misión de vida: ninguna mujer ni familia debería recorrer sola el camino hacia el éxito. Movida por la empatía que solo da la experiencia propia, cofundó Better Together Foundation para ofrecer herramientas concretas (educación, mentoría empresarial, orientación de vivienda y desarrollo personal) a mujeres y familias que enfrentan circunstancias como las que ella superó.
